Michigan State University Extension Educator Details Growth of Chinese Blueberry Industry


GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.– A report from Fruit Growers News, featuring Mark Longstroth of the Michigan State University Cooperative Extension Service, shows the Chinese blueberry market is expanding.

Longstroth spoke about the Chinese blueberry market during the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market Expo in December. During his presentation, Longstroth detailed the growth of the Chinese blueberry industry, saying a national effort to develop high-value agriculture production has spurred widespread blueberry plantings in China. Because of that, many Michigan blueberry growers worry about a glut of cheap Chinese berries flooding the U.S. market one day.
